Explore Myra/Kekove and visit St Nicholas Church including a Boat tour in this tour / shore excursion
Sailing to the ancient sunken city, Kekova island and Simena, by boat.
"Kekova" is Turkish for "plain of thyme" and it still grows wild there now. There will be a chance to swim in the clear blue waters here.
Visit Myra, the home of St Nicholas (a. k. a Santa Claus). which is well known for its amphitheatre (the largest in Lycia) and rock-cut tombs carved into the cliff above the theatre.
Lunch will be at Andriaki, which was Myra's seaport in Lycian times. Today there are several small restaurants with great sea views. We can eat fish or grilled meat all served with fresh salad.
St Nicholas Church, near Myra, contains the sarcophagus of St. Nicholas, who was a popular bishop in the 4th century AD, famous for his miracles and known for his kindness.
An early start is necessary to avoid traffic.
-We will collect you from your hotel.
-We will drive for about 2 hours to Demre, where we will visit St Nicholas Church, admire the rock tombs and see the antique theatre.
-After that, we will either drive to the Marina to stop for lunch or if you are already hungry we can find a restaurant in Demre where we can eat meat or fish with seasonal fresh vegetables/salads.
-Then, we will enjoy a private boat trip to Kekova island - looking underwater at the sunken city. Beneath the clear waters, you can see the remains of Simena, a city ravaged by earthquakes around two thousand years ago. "Kekova" is Turkish for "plain of thyme" and describes the region including the island of Kekova, the villages of Kaleköy and Üçaðiz and the three ancient towns of Simena, Teimussa and Tersane.
-After we return to the marina, we will drive back, returning you to your hotel late afternoon.
